For many years, the cupola was the primary method of melting used in iron foundries. The cupola furnace has several unique characteristics which are responsible for its widespread use as a melting unit for cast iron. It seemed a pity that part of the long frontal wall was hidden behind a row of old houses, but ample compensation remained in the sight of the towering minarets and the great heavy dome, the gleaming bulbous cupolas and the high latticed windows. Now you can own your very own weathervane or cupola for your home, business or church. If you are looking to improve the decor at your home, then you should definitely consider getting a weathervane or a cupola. In some cases, however, the cupola is of masonry, and the outer shell of the cupola is of wood covered with lead, as at St Pauls, London, and at St Marks, Venice, the five masonry cupolas have the outer shell of wood and metal.
